Chauffeur or self-drive in Colombo
Colombo traffic is heavy, parking near hotels and the Fort is limited, and one-way systems are common. Most customers hire a luxury car with a chauffeur for business and events, so that the passengers can work or relax in the back. You can also drive a premium car yourself if you meet our licence requirements (age 21, valid licence, and an International Driving Permit or AAC endorsement for foreign nationals) and leave the refundable security deposit. Practical points
Colombo's peak hours are about 7:30-9:30 am and 4:30-7:00 pm. Low European cars scrape on speed bumps and potholes, so drive slowly over them and avoid unpaved lanes; on hill roads a Land Cruiser Prado or crossover is more comfortable. Insurance is commercial and an excess applies, as stated in the agreement. Fuel is returned at the level you received. Send us the dates, the pick-up place (hotel or airport), whether you want a chauffeur and how many passengers. We confirm the vehicle and the price, and send photographs. A chauffeur-driven hire is quoted for your schedule; a self-drive hire is the daily rate plus fuel and the deposit. Book early for weddings and for the busy months.
