Located on a hillock overlooking the Kalu River, Richmond Castle is a grand 42-acre estate featuring a two-story mansion with 16 rooms and 99 door frames. Built between 1900 and 1910, it is a masterpiece of Edwardian-style architecture.

A Poignant History
The Mudaliyar built this grand home for his wife, hoping to fill it with children. Sadly, they remained childless, which led to a tragic separation and the eventual donation of the estate to the public for the care of orphans. Today, it remains one of the most beautiful and well-preserved colonial-era buildings in Sri Lanka.
