Millennium Elephant Foundation: Walking with Giants

Located near Pinnawala, the Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF) provides an alternative, more intimate experience for those looking to learn about and care for captive elephants in an ethical way.

The Elephant Walk

Instead of riding, MEF offers the 'Elephant Walk' experience:

One-on-One Time: You can walk alongside an elephant through the peaceful grounds of the foundation.

Bathing: Help wash the elephants in the river, a rewarding experience for both the visitor and the animal.

Education: Learn about the history of captive elephants in Sri Lanka and the challenges of their care.

The Museum: Visit the on-site museum to see elephant skeletons and learn about their biology.

Supporting Welfare

MEF is a non-profit organization, and your visit directly supports the medical care and retirement of the elephants under their protection.

Travel Guidance

Location: Randeniya, Kegalle.

Transport: It is very close to the main Pinnawala orphanage. A private car rental with H.B.S allows you to easily visit both sites in one day at your own pace.
