Sri Pada, also known as Adam's Peak, is one of the most iconic and sacred landmarks in Sri Lanka. This conical mountain is unique in that it is a site of pilgrimage for Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, and Muslims alike.
The Holy Footprint
At the summit lies a sacred footprint-shaped indention in the rock.
Diverse Beliefs: Buddhists believe it is the footprint of the Buddha, Hindus attribute it to Lord Shiva, and Christians and Muslims believe it belongs to Adam (hence the name Adam's Peak).
The Ritual: Pilgrims climb the thousands of steps, often starting at night, to reach the summit in time for a breathtaking sunrise.

The main season runs from the Duruthu Poya (January) to Vesak Poya (May). During this time, the entire path is illuminated, and thousands of devotees of all ages make the ascent.
