Pigeon Island: The Underwater Garden
Pigeon Island is one of only two marine national parks in Sri Lanka. Located just 1 km off the coast of Nilaveli, it is named after the Blue Rock Pigeons that inhabit the island.
A Marine Biodiversity Hotspot
The island is surrounded by some of the best-preserved coral reefs in the country.
Snorkeling with Sharks: The shallow reefs around the island are famous for being home to harmless Blacktip Reef Sharks, which can often be seen by snorkelers.
Coral Diversity: See beautiful brain corals, plate corals, and soft corals.
Sea Turtles: Green sea turtles and Hawksbill turtles are frequently spotted swimming near the reef edges. Two Islands in One
The park consists of a large island and a small island. The large island is surrounded by a fringing reef, while the small island is characterized by rocky outcrops.
