An SUV or 4x4 is the sensible choice for the hill country, where the roads climb in tight bends, and for the rough tracks that lead to safari parks and remote beaches. The extra ground clearance and grip help on bad surfaces and in the rain.
The fleet includes the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Toyota Fortuner, Honda Vezel, Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Montero.
You can hire any of them to drive yourself, or with one of our drivers.

When you need an SUV
Most main roads in Sri Lanka are paved and a normal car manages them. An SUV is worth it for steep hill sections, rough side roads, heavy luggage and large groups. Terms to know
Our rental terms prohibit racing, off-road rallying and towing. SUVs are for roads and tracks open to normal traffic. Private vehicles are not allowed inside Yala National Park; you drive to the park and hire a registered safari jeep. Insurance, deposit and fuel policy are the same as for other vehicles: see the terms and conditions.
How to choose and book
Tell us the number of people, the luggage, the route and whether you will drive yourself. We suggest a crossover or a Prado accordingly. For self-drive, the usual age, licence and permit requirements apply, with a refundable security deposit. For rough routes, tell us exactly where you plan to go, since our advice on current road conditions is part of the service.
Using the vehicle sensibly
Check the tyres and fuel before leaving the main road, carry water, and report any warning light at once. Keep to roads and tracks open to normal traffic; our terms prohibit off-road rallying, racing and towing.
